Health visitors provide a core programme of services. These include antenatal support where indicated, by liaison with the midwives, primary visits to new mothers, developmental reviews at 8 months and a contact at 2 years to ensure optimal child development.
The health visitors provide a new parents’ group on a weekly basis which invites a range of speakers on subjects which interest new parents.
The health visitors provide support for parents who have difficulties with parenting and offer specialised play work from a community nursery nurse team member. The community nursery nurse also supports individual speech and language development in families and carries out developmental reviews in nurseries.
In addition, the team helps disadvantaged parents apply for assisted nursery places and/or financial grants.
