Midwives provide antenatal care from booking at around ten weeks through to delivery from 37- 42 weeks.
They provide regular antenatal appointments to monitor the well-being of mother and baby, and parent’s education classes to first time mums. They provide an on-call homebirth system for those who choose this option and delivery, with the chance of delivering in a pool if they chose to hire one and check that both mother and baby are well.
They also provide a comprehensive postnatal service from birth to 28 days if necessary, supporting women with feeding issues, baby care, etc. They provide vital screening tests at around 7-10 days, with mother’s consent.
They liaise closely with the health visitors who then take over the care of mother and baby.
